BPC-157

BPC157, Body Protection Compound-157, PL 14736, BPC-157 arginate

Forms: Injectable powder and oral capsules (including 'arginate' salt forms).

PeptidesNot approved for humansWADA S0 · prohibitedEvidence: animal data only

A synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide based on a protein from gastric juice, sold as a 'healing' peptide. Almost all evidence comes from rats; human data are limited to a few very small pilot studies.

What it gives

What people use it for and what the sources report. Strength is a general category from the literature: mild, clear or strong.

Purpose

Used to speed healing of tendon, ligament, muscle and joint injuries and for gut problems. Rat studies show faster repair, but no controlled human trial has confirmed any benefit. Not approved as a medicine anywhere.

What people seek and what studies show

People hope for a faster return after tears and strains, less joint pain and gut healing. In rats it improved the structure and strength of healing tendons, ligaments, muscle and bone, with more new blood vessels and less inflammation. Human data are three tiny reports with no control group (knee pain, interstitial cystitis, an infusion in two adults), so a benefit in people is unproven.

Possible side effects

Possible does not mean certain: whether they appear depends on dose, duration, individual response and monitoring. Below — what to watch for and how to notice it early.

4 possible side effects

level · how often it is reported
Elevated
Black-market quality risk (fakes, contamination)
Sold as an unregulated 'research' powder or capsules: content, purity, sterility and endotoxins are not controlled.
How to notice: Unexpected effects, pain or infection, a stronger or weaker effect than expected.
common
Moderate
Unknown long-term safety (little human data)
Human safety is essentially unstudied; the FDA notes a possible risk of immune reactions and impurities. Lack of toxicity in animals says little about long-term human use.
How to notice: Nothing to notice — the risk is what is not yet known.
possible
Moderate
Abnormal tissue growth (theoretical cancer risk)
Theoretical only: it promotes new blood-vessel growth (VEGF signaling) in animal studies, which could in principle feed a tumor; avoid with a history of cancer.
How to notice: No direct signs — the point is not to fuel existing growths.
rare
Low
Injection pain, infection, oil cough
Pain, redness or infection where it is injected, more likely with non-sterile product.
How to notice: Soreness, lumps; a short coughing fit right after an injection.
possible

How to lower the risks

General ways to lower the chance of each side effect. No measure removes a risk completely.

ElevatedBlack-market quality risk (fakes, contamination)

Products obtained without a prescription are often fake, mislabeled or non-sterile, and there is no way to check at home. For legal supplements, look for third-party testing (Informed Sport, NSF).

ModerateUnknown long-term safety (little human data)

What is unknown cannot be lowered, only avoided; tell your doctor what you have taken.

ModerateAbnormal tissue growth (theoretical cancer risk)

No check-up or blood test lowers this risk; avoid with any personal or family history of cancer.

Low-level side effects

Injection site
Sterile technique, never share needles, vials or pens; see a doctor for a hot, swollen site. If equipment was ever shared, test for HIV and hepatitis B/C and ask about hepatitis B vaccination.

Myth & fact

Myth

“BPC-157 is a proven healing peptide with no side effects.”

Fact

Healing is shown in rats, not in controlled human trials; 'no side effects' only means nobody has properly studied it in people.

Combinations

No specific combination notes for this substance yet. The stack check still adds up side effects that several substances share.
