DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide, emideltide)
Deltaran
Forms: A nasal medicine registered in Russia (Deltaran) and injectable 'research' powder sold elsewhere.
A nine-amino-acid peptide described in the 1970s as a sleep-inducing factor. Sold as a sleep and 'stress' peptide; human sleep studies from the 1980s–90s gave weak or inconsistent results.
Legal status: Registered in Russia; in most countries a 'research' peptide; varies by country. A 2026 FDA panel voted against US compounding. Not named on the WADA List; athletes should check.
What it gives
What people use it for and what the sources report. Strength is a general category from the literature: mild, clear or strong.
Purpose
Marketed to athletes for deeper sleep, recovery and lower stress hormones. Registered in Russia as a nasal medicine for stress-related conditions and alcohol withdrawal; not approved in most other countries.
What people seek and what studies show
People hope for deeper sleep and better recovery. In a double-blind study of 16 people with chronic insomnia the sleep effects were weak and judged of no major benefit. In healthy volunteers one study saw ACTH fall with no change in cortisol, another found no effect on ACTH or cortisol, and in women it did not change growth hormone or prolactin. Athletes have not been studied.

How to lower the risks
General ways to lower the chance of each side effect. No measure removes a risk completely.
Products obtained without a prescription are often fake, mislabeled or non-sterile, and there is no way to check at home. For legal supplements, look for third-party testing (Informed Sport, NSF).
What is unknown cannot be lowered, only avoided; tell your doctor what you have taken.

For women
The Russian label lists pregnancy and breastfeeding as contraindications; there are no safety data for these situations.
Myth & fact

In a controlled insomnia trial the sleep effect was weak, and in women it did not change growth hormone or prolactin.
